In every layoff, we have members who either completely
forget to file for benefits or go in once to reopen the claim but don’t go back
in to actually claim the week. IF YOU DO EITHER OF THESE THINGS, YOU WILL
LIKELY NOT RECEIVE UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS FOR THAT WEEK.
File for unemployment benefits
online at http://unemployment.ohio.gov. If
you do not have internet access, call your processing center (the number is
located on correspondence you’ve received from the ODJFS). ODJFS business hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday –
Friday, except holidays. Please follow the instructions below:
File for unemployment benefits
using Mass Layoff # 2100111. Your last day worked is 04/16/2021 and your return to
work date is 06/28/2021.
PLEASE NOTE: You will need to call your processing center or visit
the ODJFS web site once to reopen your application for benefits and then go
back in each Sunday and claim your weeks until the layoff ends.
1. SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2021 – Open or restart application for
benefits
2. SUNDAY, APRIL 25, 2021 – Claim layoff week (week ending 04/24/2021),
then continue filing claims each Sunday
until you return to work.
PLEASE NOTE: We are having problems getting member’s claims
fixed once they are filed wrong. If you have any doubt at all about what you’re
doing, please hang up or log out and call the union hall for assistance. It is
easier for us to help you file than it is to get your claims fixed.
Two frequent mistakes made by members are:
1. Filling out the information about the union hiring hall. UAW
LOCAL 2000 IS NOT A HIRING HALL. Please do not check ANY boxes or
fill in ANY information at all in the union section.
2. Answering “no” to the job search question when you have a mass
layoff number. If you have a mass layoff number and they ask you for the
jobs you applied for, type the following information in for both jobs: Ohio
Assembly Plant, 650 Miller Road, Avon Lake, OH 44012. Choose that you walked in
to apply, choose a date from the drop down menu, then type hired. PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER “NO” TO THAT
QUESTION IF IT IS ASKED OF YOU.
