INFORMATION BULLETIN - August 18, 2006

SUB PAY / UNEMPLOYMENT DETERMINATION: Sub pay will be automatic for members who have been laid off any time in the last 52 weeks prior to this layoff week, and have already received unemployment compensation during this past year. Members who were on layoff status and serving their waiting week must take their ODJFS Determination Notice to Human Resources to file for sub pay for your waiting week. This will start your auto sub.

NEXT PAID HOLIDAY, LABOR DAY, SEPTEMBER 4th: You must return to work the day after the holiday (Tuesday, September 5th) or have an excused absence for days off following the holiday in order to receive your holiday pay. You MUST work your next scheduled day. Example: If you have September 5th and 6th off with an excused absence, you STILL MUST WORK Thursday, September 7th to get paid for the holiday.

LABOR DAY CONVERSION: Those employees who work Labor Day (September 4th, 2006) are eligible to sign up in Human Resources during the week of September 4th through September 8th to convert their holiday.

SHIFT PREFERENCE SIGN UP: Sign up for shift preference is Monday, September 4th at 6:00 AM through Monday, September 11th until midnight in Human Resources.

MEET YOUR STATE CANDIDATES BUS TOUR: The state candidates will be making a stop on their bus tour this Sunday, August 20th at Ely Square in downtown Elyria. The rally begins at 5:00 PM and the candidates will be arriving between 5:30-6:00 PM. Parking will be available at all city lots, the city hall lot and the county administration building bus garage. Please plan on attending.

LOCAL 2000 VOLUNTEERS FOR THE LABOR DAY CELEBRATION: Please be at the park prior to your 2:00 PM starting time. You can pick your commemorative tee shirt up at the ticket booth near the food tent.

12th ANNUAL LORAIN COUNTY ORGANIZED LABOR, LABOR DAY CELEBRATION & ANTIQUE, CLASSIC & STREETROD CAR SHOW – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd: Plan on attending our celebration at Lakeview Park in Lorain from noon until 8:00 PM. The event is the largest of its kind in the state of Ohio. There will be continuous music, amusement rides, pony rides, 25¢ hot dogs, soda, bottled water, chips and more. There will also be many free giveaways and thousands of dollars in free door prizes, such as a Disney World trip, a Las Vegas trip, $300 gift cards for Giant Eagle and Heinen’s, plus much more. Free drawing tickets will be given away during the event. The drawing will be held at 6:30 PM sharp. You must be present at the time of drawing to win door prizes.

CANDIDATES’ NIGHT: The Lorain County UAW CAP Council and the AFL-CIO Federation of Labor present Candidates’ Night at UAW Local 2000 on September 7th, 2006 at 5:30 PM. Everyone is welcome.

POKER RUN: The Annual Poker Run and Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday September 9th, 2006. Registration will be at the UAW Local 2000 Union Hall at 11:00 AM. The last bike out will be at 11:30 AM. We will be riding to Ford dealerships in Lorain County ending at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. Lunch will be served at the home. The cost is $5.00 for single riders, $10.00 for double riders and $5.00 for classic cars. Come and enjoy the ride to benefit the residents of Avon Oaks Nursing Home!

6TH ANNUAL REGION 2-B TRAPSHOOT: Region 2-B will be holding their 6th Annual Trapshoot Saturday, September 16th, at Jaqua’s Trap Club, 900 E. Bigelow Avenue, Findlay, Ohio starting at 9:00 AM. It is open to all Region 2-B UAW members (active & retired) and spouses only. The entry fee is $55.00 per shooter. The entry fee includes ammo, targets, prizes and expense fees. Entry forms are available at the local union hall. No entries will be accepted after Monday, August 28th, 2006.

LUCY IDOL COLLECTION: Our annual Lucy Idol gate collection has been rescheduled for September 15th, 2006.

UAW REGION 2-B SCHOLARSHIP: Applications for the Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Program are available at the union hall or from ETC Ray Berisko (933.1399). Applicants must be high school seniors graduating between January 2007 and July 2007. If the application is mailed, it will not be accepted if the U.S. Mail postmark is later than October 15th, 2006.

NEXT UNION MEETING: Due to the membership’s action at the May union meeting, the summer membership meetings have been cancelled. Our next membership meeting will be held on Sunday, September 10th, 2006 at U.A.W. Local 2000 Union Hall.
