FAMILY DAYS / RETIRING OR TAKING A PACKAGE: Those retiring or taking a package that have not used their family days must do so before their last day of work or those days will be lost.

UNEMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) no longer has unemployment forms. You must file for unemployment by calling 1.877.644.6562 or by filing online at http://unemployment.ohio.gov. Some information for filing your claim is listed as follows:

  1. You must use the claim number (800284) provided by ODJFS for the week your layoff begins when filing for unemployment.

  2. PLEASE NOTE: You must access the ODJFS website TWICE or call ODJFS TWICE to receive benefits.

  3. Full details and instructions from the ODJFS will be distributed by the company and available in Human Resources and at the union hall. The ODJFS instructions will also be posted on our website at www.uawlocal2000.org.

  4. PLEASE follow the ODJFS instructions carefully.

**Please start making your first call or visit to the ODJFS web site starting Sunday May18th.
**Your first call or web site visit is making application for unemployment benefits.
**Your second call or web site visit is claiming your unemployment week.
**You can claim your unemployment week starting on Sunday May 25th, following the week on unemployment.
**The ODJFS instructions indicate the last day to make application is May 24th. PLEASE do not wait until that date to file because if you do, you may encounter a problem that may force you to file late for your application.
**You must follow these steps or you will most likely lose your unemployment benefit due to a late file and then you will only be eligible for sub pay for that lay off week.
**If you have a late file, you must personally follow the appeals process.

SUB PAY / UNEMPLOYMENT DETERMINATION: Sub pay will be automatic for members who have been laid off any time in the last 52 weeks prior to this layoff week, and have already received unemployment compensation during this past year. Members who will be on layoff status and serving their waiting week will be denied unemployment and must take their ODJFS Determination Notice to Human Resources to file for sub pay for your waiting week. Signing up for sub this time will start your auto sub for one year in case of future layoffs.

PAYCHECK INFORMATION: Paychecks for the week ending May 18th will be distributed on Friday, May 23rd by the main cafeteria in the administration building between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

U.A.W. FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP: Applications are available at the union hall for the 2008 Walter and May Reuther U.A.W. Family Scholarship being held at the U.A.W. Education Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan on the weeks of July 6-11, July 13-18, and July 20-25. A $50.00 refundable registration fee must be submitted with the application. Members must use vacation time, personal time or take a union leave of absence to attend.

THE NEXT MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be on May 18th at 2:30 PM at Southview High School, 2270 East 42nd Street in Lorain.
