TENTATIVE DOWN WEEK
IN JULY:
Chairman Nick Gallogly has been advised by Plant Manager Joe Lee
that the week of July 21st is a tentative down week. As always,
schedules are subject to change.
MESSAGE FROM THE
ELECTION COMMITTEE: Polls will be open Tuesday, May 6th at 12:00
noon until Wednesday, May 7th at 12:00 noon. Members must
present their Ohio Assembly ID card or other suitable ID at the time
of voting.
Each candidate is allowed a challenger. However, the
committee recommends designating one challenger for more than one
candidate due to space limitations. The identity of your
challenger(s) must be provided in writing to the Election Committee
Chairman (Brenda Davis) no less than 1 hour prior to the opening of
the polls. Challengers must report to the registration table to
receive badge and rules. The Election Committee of UAW Local 2000
thanks you in advance for your cooperation. The election
trailers will be located on the Abbe Road side of the plant near the
administration building.
ABSENTEE VOTING:
Per membership action at the April 13th membership meeting, absentee
voting will be permitted per the UAW International Constitution.
ONLY those on official union or
company business are eligible to vote. Absentee ballots will
be available at the union hall.
MEMBERS TAKING
RETIREMENT PACKAGES
should come to the union hall to pick up their retirement items.
Please note: Be sure to check your last pay stub to be
sure union dues have not been withdrawn. If you find they have,
please come to the office with your pay stub and we
will take your information and provide reimbursement for the dues
withdrawn in error. Reimbursement checks will be cut the week
following your request and mailed to your home.
NEXT PAID HOLIDAY:
Our next paid holiday is Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th. You must
work Tuesday May 27th, the day after to the holiday to receive
holiday pay, or have an excused absence for that day but you
MUST
work your next scheduled day. Example: If you have May 28th
and May 29th off with an excused absence, you STILL MUST WORK May
30th to get paid for the holiday.
HOLIDAY CONVERSION
FOR MEMORIAL DAY: The book will be open in the Human Resources
Department from May 26th until midnight on Thursday, May 29th for
all eligible hourly employees who work and wish to convert the
holiday to an additional day of excused absence.
SCHOLARSHIP WINNER:
Congratulations to Jeffery Andrew Pierce, Jr. Jeffery
is Local 2000’s second recipient of the UAW Region 2B Richard T.
Gosser Scholarship Program. He won one of the $10,000.00 (ten
thousand dollar) scholarship awards that are awarded to the children
of UAW members in Region 2-B. Jeffery’s father, Jeff, is a
plumber-pipefitter in our plant.
49TH ANNUAL REGION
2-B SINGLES GOLF TOURNAMENT: The tournament will be held on
Saturday May 17th and on Sunday June 22nd at Hawthorne Hills and
Saturday and Sunday, June 14th and 15th at Thunderbird Hills. The
tournament is open to all Region 2-B members (active or retired) and
their spouses. It will be conducted on a first-come first-serve
basis. All applications must be as foursomes and no singles or any
variations will be processed. Applications and full details
are available at the union hall.
UAW FAMILY
SCHOLARSHIP:
Applications are available at the union hall for the 2008 Walter and
May Reuther UAW Family Scholarship being held at the UAW Education
Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan on the weeks of July 6-11,
July 13-18 and July 20-25. A $50.00 refundable registration fee must
be submitted with the application. Members must use vacation time,
personal time or take a union leave of absence to attend.
THE NEXT RETIREE
MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be on Thursday, May 1st at 10:00 AM at
the union hall. Candidates running for Executive Board offices are
invited to speak for a few moments to the retirees. THE NEXT MONTHLY
MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be on May 18th at 2:30 PM at Southview High
School, 2270 East 42nd Street in Lorain.
